Just a few days after we received more leaks about Google’s “affordable” Pixel 8a, the leaks about the upcoming Pixel 9 series have begun to surface. As expected, the Tensor G4 will be the powerhouse on Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. However, once again, Samsung will give Google a hand. According to a report by FNN News, the Tensor G4 could be powered by Samsung’s latest 4nm process, which could be an upgrade over the predecessor.

Tensor G4 will be based on Samsung’s 4nm chip process

One of the key upgrades to the Tensor G4-powered Pixel 9 series could be the adoption of Fan-out Wafer Level Packaging (FOWLP) technology. This advanced packaging technique allows for faster and more efficient transmission of electrical signals through the chipset, while also improving heat resistance. These improvements could result in better multi-core performance and overall efficiency for the Pixel 9 series.

@Tech_Reve, who’s active in the semiconductor space, explains that FOWLP “can improve semiconductor heat dissipation and enhance power efficiency and performance.”

Notably, Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipset, which also utilizes FOWLP technology, has received positive reviews, particularly for its performance in demanding tasks like gaming. So, we may expect the Pixel 9 series to handle gaming smoothly. Furthermore, the same report by a Korean publication, adds that the Exynos 2400-equipped Galaxy S24 series has received quite a positive response from the market. It suggests that sales surpassed over 1 million units in 28 days.

It seems that Samsung Foundry is leveling up against competitors

All in all, Samsung Foundry is scaling up and giving tough competition to other chip manufacturing giants. Global tech giants, including Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and OpenAI’s Sam Altman, have expressed interest in collaborating with Samsung for semiconductor production.

Whether or not, this development suggests that the Google Pixel 9 series will perform equally well or even better than its predecessors. Notably, the Google Pixel 8 Pro won the Best Smartphone of 2023 award at Android Headlines.
