Google does not want any of its apps to lack anything when compared to its competitors. This is obvious given its previous activities, such as introducing native ARM-based Windows support to Chrome and others. The company now wants its Google Chat app to include a popular broadcasting message function, which we may see sooner than expected.
WhatsApp-like broadcasting feature is coming to Google Chat
This particular broadcasting message feature gained a lot of spotlight in the past few months. The feature allows the admin to send a message or text to selected people or groups without creating a mess. Platforms like WhatsApp and Elon Musk’ X already have a similar feature and they have gained enormous success over it.
The feature caught Google’s attention and it is now preparing to add it very soon in Google Chat. According to AssembleDebug on X, the feature would be termed “Announcements”. He also adds a first look at it but for now, we are kind of unsure of how exactly the feature is going to work.
It may work a little differently than other platforms
As of right now, the admins can send a message or text to Google Chat, and all the joined members can react, reply, and post a message to it. However, the upcoming announcement will add a new section where the admins will be able to broadcast the message. There may be an option to broadcast it to all the members or maybe some selected ones. Admins can utilize this feature to share small updates or maybe a quick reaction to any work.
The feature is not going to be targeted at the general audience, unlike WhatsApp. But, it would be more refined for firms, workspaces, or small organizations. If the feature turns out to be a well-optimized one, it would give tough competition to other platforms like Slack. A lot of workspaces are already using Google Chat, but they have to rely on external tools for broadcasting anything. The new addition will make sure that they are not relying on any other tools or apps.
