As many of you know by now, it has been reported that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have ultra-thin bezels. Apple is allegedly using a ‘Border Reduction Structure’ method to achieve that. Based on the latest report, however, those ultra-thin bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro are causing problems for Apple.

Ultra-thin bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro are causing a headache for Apple

What exactly? Well, there seems to be a problem on the production side of things, a challenge, if you will. The information comes from The Elec, a South Korean publication. LG Display and Samsung Display are allegedly having problems with BRS, however.

LG Display and Samsung Display are Apple’s display suppliers. The Border Reduction Structure method is basically a technology for displays. In order to achieve the desired results, the “circuit under the bezel must be placed more tightly and some wiring must be bent down, which increases the technical difficulty”.

The report goes on to say that “no company has stabilized the iPhone OLED production rate to the level that Apple expects”. Samsung Display is the main supplier for the iPhone 16 series, it seems. LG Display will supply panels for the ‘Pro’ models only, while BOE will help out with panels for the vanilla models.

A previous issue with BRS has been solved, allegedly

According to a report from last month, which talked about BRS; the wiring technique can lead to overheating concerns. That problem has reportedly been solved, 9to5Mac reports. New, heat-controlled heat dissipation techniques have been used.

We wonder if BRS is worth the trouble, though. The bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are already extremely thin. They’re 1.55mm thick. We wonder how much thinner can they get with BRS usage. If the difference is minimal, and it most likely is, chances are it’s not even worth the trouble.

Apple seemingly wants to make its new phones stand out somehow. They’ll look basically the same as the previous models otherwise, especially the ‘Pro’ variants. They will include slightly larger display, however. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature 6.3 and 6.9-inch panels, respectively.
