Back in December last year, Lenovo announced the Chromebox Micro, a very small Chromebox. You’ll be glad to know that Lenovo’s phone-sized ChromeOS computer is now available to consumers.
Lenovo’s phone-sized ChromeOS computer starts showing up in stores in the US
There is a reason I mentioned the ‘consumers’ specifically above, as this is not its original availability announcement. This product was initially aimed at business consumers. Lenovo has decided to flip the script and offer it to regular consumers too.
The Lenovo Chromebox Micro has started appearing in online stores, including B&H, Walmart, and CDW. Do note that it’s currently back-ordered or out of stock, at least based on the listings we’ve seen.
It is easily possible this product will surface in more stores in the US, including Amazon and BestBuy. As of writing this article, however, it is not available on either of those two stores. Keep your eyes open, though.
It is not particularly powerful, but it’s very portable
Now, the Lenovo Chromebox Micro, as you might have guessed, is not a particularly powerful computer. It’s supposed to be extremely portable and give you a full-fledged desktop experience wherever you go, but it’s not particularly powerful.
It is fueled by the Intel Celeron N4500 dual-core processor. The device comes with 8GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of eMMC storage. You cannot upgrade either of those components, by the way. All of them are soldered to the motherboard. That’s not surprising considering the size of this thing.
The device measures 6.4” x 3.1” x 0.8” and weighs just over 12 ounces. You’ll need a 45W or 65W power supply in order to power this thing. WiFi 6 is supported, as is Bluetooth 5.1.
It’s also worth noting that there are useful ports included here, despite its size. You have access to two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 1.4b port, an audio jack, and a Gigabit Ethernet port.
