It didn’t take long. Days after an international release, Samsung‘s April update is available for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US. The Galaxy A14 5G is also picking up the latest security patch stateside. More eligible models will join the party in the coming days.

April update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 reaches the US

Samsung recently updated the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 to One UI 6.1. The new One UI version brought several AI features introduced with the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year. It also brought camera enhancements and other improvements to the foldable duo.

Rolled out at the end of March, the update arrived with the March 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release), which the foldables had already picked up earlier that month. However, Samsung wasted no time in pushing the April SMR to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. A few days back, international versions of the devices received the new security patch in some regions. The US versions have joined the party today.

As of this writing, the latest SMR is only available for the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US. The new firmware build numbers for the foldable duo are F946USQS2CXCI and F731USQS2CXCI, respectively. Samsung’s official changelog confirms that the update is all about this month’s security fixes. The devices recently received One UI 6.1, so that was expected.

The April 2024 SMR for Galaxy devices patches more than 40 security vulnerabilities. These include around 30 Android OS patches from Google, including one critical fix. The remaining patches come from Samsung and concern Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities. The Korean firm will soon roll out these patches to the unlocked variants of its latest foldables. The new SMR will also gradually expand to other Galaxy devices.

This update is also available for the Galaxy A14 5G

The Galaxy A14 5G is also picking up Samsung’s April security update in the US. Spotted by Sammy Fans, the update is available for the carrier-locked variants on Verizon’s network. It comes with firmware version A146USQS6CXC8 and only contains this month’s security fixes. A wider rollout should follow in the coming weeks.

This budget phone is expected to receive One UI 6.1 in a month or two. However, due to compatibility issues, Samsung may not bring the new AI features to the device. It doesn’t have the power required to run those features. Nonetheless, if you are using a Galaxy A14 5G, watch out for new software updates. One UI 6.1 should contain a few interesting things for it.
