Samsung is rolling out new software updates to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series, or at least the Ultra models. This is the second May update for the devices. The latest release seems to fix some bugs and system stability issues, including an annoying video issue in the camera. It should be available globally in the coming days.

Galaxy S24 Ultra and S23 Ultra get a second May update

The Galaxy S24 series was the first to get Samsung’s May update. The Galaxy S23 series followed a week or so later. Those updates were expected to address some system bugs, including battery drain issues, on the devices. However, the company pushed nothing more than the 55 security fixes part of its May SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

Thankfully, it has quickly released another update to fix some of the known issues. As of this writing, the new update is available for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra in Thailand. The updated firmware build numbers for the phones are S928BXXU2AXE4 and S918BXXU5CXE1, respectively. The OTA (over the air) packages weigh around 430MB for both models.

According to user reports on X and other online platforms, the latest update fixes a video rattling issue. Affected devices make a weird sound when the phone is moved quickly to focus on a different subject while recording videos. Several users have been experiencing this problem. Samsung seems to have addressed the issue on both Ultra models with this update.

Since the update has just landed, one cannot tell if the company has also addressed the battery drain problem. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has had this issue since the One UI 6.1 update while the Galaxy S24 Ultra picked it up in April. We will have to wait a few days to confirm if Samsung has looked into it. The updates may reach users in other regions soon.

The new flagships may get a bigger update next month

A bigger update may be on the cards for the Galaxy S24 series next month. Samsung is expected to address various camera issues with it. The new flagships have excellent cameras but still aren’t perfect. In some areas of photography, they even appear to lag behind their Galaxy S23 counterparts. Samsung certainly cannot let this happen and is at work to set it right. It remains to be seen if the June update finally unlocks the true potential of Galaxy S24 cameras.
