OpenAI launches GPT-4o to bring GPT-4 class intelligence to free users
The latest news is the launch of GPT-4o, which will offer GPT-4 class intelligence to the free users. OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati said that the GPT-4o is faster and brings OpenAI’s most advanced features to all. It will be rolled out to the public over the next couple of weeks.
Alongside ChatGPT, the new model will also be available to the API. So, developers will be able to build AI applications based on the model. Notably, the paid users will have up to five times the capacity limits as compared to the free users.
ChatGPT currently has more than 100 million people who use the tool to create, work, and learn. Not to mention, a significant proportion of them are free users. The GPT-4o is going to be one of the biggest and most exciting updates for them.
GPT-4o improves its capabilities across text, vision, and audio. While OpenAI has been focusing on improving the intelligence of its models so far, it is the first time they have made a huge step forward when it comes to ease of use. The new model makes the interaction much more natural and easier.
So far, OpenAI has had more than a million users of custom ChatGPTs made for specific use cases that are available in the GPT Store. Now, with the improved efficiency of the GPT-4o, they are finally able to offer the tools to everyone.
OpenAI also launched a desktop app for ChatGPT
Aside from GPT-4o, OpenAI also launched a desktop app for ChatGPT, talked about web UI updates, and offered a couple of live demonstrations of the capabilities of the new model. CTO Mira Murati says their mission is “to ensure that artificial intelligence benefits all humanity.”
The desktop app intends to make accessing ChatGPT easy and simple. Murati said that AI models are becoming increasingly complex, and OpenAI wants its users to have more natural and engaging interactions with AI models.
