Yesterday, Qualcomm held its keynote titled “The PC Reborn” to talk about its Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus PC processors. During the event, the company’s CEO Cristiano Amon mentioned how the brand aims to redefine the PC segment with its chips. Amon said how the Snapdragon X platform can significantly boost performance and lower power consumption to achieve higher battery life.
Amon didn’t shed much light on the facts or figures or new details. However, he did invite Sam Burd, Dell’s President, Client Solutions Group, on the stage, who touted how Dell’s Snapdragon X Elite platform-powered XPS 13 provides otherworldly battery life.
Dell claims the Snapdragon X Elite-powered XPS 13 can last 9 more hours than the Intel counterpart
During the Qualcomm keynote, Burd touted that the Snapdragon X Elite processor-powered XPS 13 variant is capable of providing up to 27 hours of video playback. That’s more than a day of continuous usage, which is a very impressive number for such a slim notebook. Notably, the Intel processor-backed XPS 13 model provides up to 18 hours of battery life. That’s with the same 55Wh battery and the same 13.4-inch full HD 500-nit display.
Essentially, the XPS 13 fuelled by the Snapdragon X Elite is the same notebook featuring an identical battery in the same chassis. That said, the ARMx64 SoC-based variant is capable of lasting 9 more hours than the one with the Intel processors.
The new XPS 13 with the Snapdragon X Elite is available to pre-order
The Dell XPS 13 with the Snapdragon X Elite processor was introduced last month. The notebook is currently available to pre-order on the company’s website for $1,299. At the time of reporting this news, Dell appears to be taking orders for a single variant of the new XPS. It has 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of M.2 PCIe NVMe solid state drive.
The general sales of the notebook will start later this month. We can expect the company will offer the new XPS 13 model in more configurations at that time. Apart from Dell, more companies including Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, and Samsung will be releasing their Snapdragon X-powered products in the future.
