Samsung‘s June update is live for the Galaxy S21 FE in the US. The update is rolling out for carrier-locked units. Factory-unlocked units may also receive it in the coming days. The company should soon expand the rollout globally, plugging dozens of security vulnerabilities.

Galaxy S21 FE gets Samsung’s June security update in the US

If you are using a carrier-locked Galaxy S21 FE in the US, the June security update may come with one of the following firmware build numbers depending on your network provider and model variant: G990USQSBGXF1, G990U2SQS9GXF1, and G990USQSBGXF2. Regardless of the build number, the changelog is the same. Samsung is pushing this month’s security fixes to the devices. There aren’t any other changes.

This is only the second update for the Galaxy S21 FE since Samsung released One UI 6.1, so we weren’t expecting any new features or improvements. Android 15-based One UI 7.0 should be the next major feature update for the phone. It may also get One UI 6.1.1 but we don’t expect many goodies. The Fan Edition smartphone is unlikely to receive Android 16, though. It’s only supposed to get three major Android OS updates.

Nonetheless, there is plenty of life left in the Galaxy S21 FE. It will continue to receive security patches at least until early 2026. The latest release patches nearly 60 vulnerabilities. That’s the total security issues patched across the Galaxy family, including Android OS flaws. Some Galaxy devices are affected by fewer vulnerabilities than others. One of the Galaxy-specific issues was labeled critical by Samsung.

You should get a notification once the latest update hits your Galaxy S21 FE. Since OTA (over-the-air) updates are released in batches, some units may receive them later than others. You can also check for updates manually from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and select Download and install. If you are on limited mobile data, connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network to avoid incurring unwanted data charges.

One UI 6.1.1 arrives next month

Based on Android 14, One UI 6.1.1 is a relatively minor feature update for Galaxy devices. It will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 next month before making its way into eligible older models. Rumors say the new One UI version will bring camera improvements to the Galaxy S24 series, particularly the Galaxy S24 Ultra. If true, it may be the first notable feature update for the new flagships. Stay tuned for the official release in a few weeks.
