Motorola has officially announced the new Edge 2024 boasting some nifty upgrades and a very stylish design. Like Motorola’s recently announced Moto G Stylus 5G 2024, the new Motorola Edge 2024 features a slightly soft and supple vegan leather back. This not only looks good, it adds a level of fun and excitement to the phone market. It also helps with grip a little.

When it comes to specs quite a few of them are the same. For example, the new Motorola Edge is still using a 6.6-inch pOLED display. It’s also still IP68-rated for dust and water resistance like last year, and it still comes with a 50MP main camera sensor on the back. That 50MP camera is also accompanied by a 13MP ultrawide camera lens. Motorola does change up a few things too though.

While the new Edge 2024 still uses Motorola’s popular 68W TurboPower charging, this year’s phone comes with a noticeably bigger battery. The chipset has been updated too. Then of course, there’s the design, which still uses vegan leather but it comes in a new color and Motorola has altered the shape of the camera bump.

One neat new feature that users should find convenient is the Quick Button. This will let you instantly launch right into a specific app action with a single press. So instead of launching an app, and then going through a few different steps to send a GIF to a friend, you can configure the Quick Button to jump straight to that action.

The Motorola Edge 2024 now comes with a 5,000mAh battery

When you think about what you want most in a smartphone, chances are a long-lasting battery is among the top features. If not the top feature. The Motorola Edge 2024 should fill that need. The new Edge features an upgraded battery capacity of 5,000mAh. This is compared to last year’s model which had a 4,400mAh battery inside. Motorola says this will let users stream, play, or work all day without having to find an outlet to plug into.

And if you do happen to drain the battery most of the way, it has the 68W charging so it’ll juice back up pretty fast. One of the only complaints we had about the Moto G Stylus 5G 2024, which also has a 5,000mAh battery, is that it felt slow to charge. At more than double the power output, the charger that comes with the Edge 2024 will be a huge boost to all-day usability and then some.

A new chipset sets the stage for great performance

One of the other big changes with this year’s phone is the switch from MediaTek to Qualcomm for the chipset. The 2023 model used a MediaTek Dimensity 7030. This year, Motorola chose to go with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. It’s a step up from the Snapdragon mobile platform in the Moto G Stylus 5G 2024, which we found to be pretty decent for mobile gaming. So the Edge should perform even better.

Additionally, the display has a 144Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate for smoother gameplay. Motorola is sticking with 256GB of storage here and the phone still has 8GB of RAM. So there are no upgrades there. However, the bigger battery and more powerful chipset are a nice bump up, especially when you consider the price. The Edge will now cost $50 less than last year’s model which launched at $600. You can pre-order the unlocked Motorola Edge 2024 in Midnight Blue for $550 from Amazon, Best Buy, and Motorola starting on June 20.

It will also be available from T-Mobile, Metro, Visible, and more US carriers shortly down the road.
