Samsung‘s July update is rolling out to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the US. The 2022 flagships have already picked up the new security patch in some international markets. Others should follow in the coming days.

Galaxy S22, Note 20, and 2021 foldables get the July update in the US

Samsung has had a slow start to the July update by its standards. The Galaxy A55 was the first model to pick up the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) last week. It then probably shifted focus to the Unpacked event, as no other model followed. The security update rollout resumed yesterday. The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S22, and a few A series models picked up the new SMR in Europe and other regions.

The US versions of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are now joining the party. As of this writing, the update is available only for carrier-locked units. The new firmware build number for the phones is S90*USQS6EXF8. Samsung should soon push the new security release to unlocked units. The update doesn’t bring anything more than this month’s 60-odd security fixes, which include at least six critical patches.

For the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the rollout has begun with unlocked units. The last Note phones are picking up the build number N98*U1UES8HXFC. It’s the same changelog as the 2022 flagship trio, i.e., the update only contains the July SMR and nothing else. Samsung should gradually expand the rollout to carrier-locked units in the US and bring it to global markets over the next few weeks.

The latest SMR is also rolling out to Samsung’s 2021 foldables in the US. Both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are receiving the 60+ security fixes. The updated build numbers for the Fold model are F926USQS7IXFC and F926U1UES7IXFC. Those for the Flip are F711USQS8IXFC and F711U1UES8IXFC. As expected, the foldables aren’t getting additional goodies with the July update.

More devices with get the July SMR soon

Samsung is just starting to roll out the July update in bulk. It should soon push the new SMR to more Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S23 series and the past two generations of foldables. The company is also readying the One UI 6.1.1 update for older foldables and tablets and a new One UI 6.1 feature update for S series flagships. These updates may arrive in August, or maybe at the end of July, we shall find out soon.
