Google Gemini is getting a long-awaited tweak that makes it more pleasant to use and might even open up new functional possibilities. Now, Gemini’s results appear in a floating window instead of “kicking” you out of your current app.
While Gemini is meant to be the successor to the classic Google Assistant, it still has a long way to go. There are some tasks supported by Assistant that Gemini can’t do (and vice versa), so both coexist together. There are even features that only work in certain specific languages (mainly English). So, many people still rely on Assistant even now.
Google Gemini will no longer take you out of your current app to display results
One of the key differences between Gemini and Assistant is the behavior after a search or request. The latter displays results in a floating window that pops up from the bottom of the UI. This means that, if you were using a particular app, it will still be visible in the background. On the other hand, Gemini shows results in its own app, kicking you out of the one you were using.
That said, Google was already aware that Gemini’s behavior could be a bit annoying compared to Assistant. So, the Mountain View giant promised a better way to display results. Now, it seems that the company is already implementing the long-awaited floating window in Gemini.
Android Authority shared a video showing Gemini’s new behavior. Now, search results or prompt responses will appear in a popup window, just like in Assistant. This change would not only be aesthetic, but also functional. Keeping your old app visible could enable copy/paste or drag/drop from results.
The tweak will surely help make Gemini’s experience more streamlined and attractive. According to the report, the new UI appeared to a user running the latest Google app beta (v15.31.29.28.arm64). So, it’s likely to take a few weeks to reach everyone through the stable channel.
