UPDATE (August 17, 2024): The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL do not include different displays in some countries after all. It was a typo on Google’s part, or should we say typos. The company has fixed its mistake, it’s all good now. All Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL handsets have LTPO displays.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Both the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphones offer LTPO displays, but that does not apply to all regions, it seems. In some regions, the two Pixel 9 Pro phones seem to offer different displays, non-LTPO ones.. In one market, they don’t support Wi-Fi 7 either.
Google’s Pixel 9 Pro phones seemingly offer different displays in some regions
According to a new report, the two smartphones don’t offer those features in India, Malaysia, and Singapore. They seem to have Actua displays instead of Super Actua displays. That also means that they offer lower brightness too, by the way.
What about Wi-Fi 7? Well, the two smartphones do seem to offer Wi-Fi 7 everywhere except in India. Yes, even in Malaysia and Singapore. For some reason, India has been left out.
With that being said, some typos were noticed in Google’s online materials in some markets. So do take this info with a grain of salt for now, and let’s see if Google will clear things up soon.
These are not the differences we expected
While we did expect some regional differences, we expected such differences to be limited to storage variants available and different 5G bands. This is quite surprising, to say the least, though it could be a mistake on Google’s part.
There’s simply no reason for the company to use different displays in some markets, and to block Wi-Fi 7 too. So let’s hope that this was just a mistake, as some typos were noticed in several different sections of the spec sheets.
It’s also worth noting that Google VPN doesn’t seem to be available in some countries. That feature is free for Pixel 9 users, by the way. It doesn’t seem to be available in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, India, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia or Slovenia.
