In an era where phone durability is paramount, the HTC U24 Pro recently underwent the rigorous testing of well-known phone enthusiast Zack Nelson. Launched two months ago, the HTC U24 Pro, a mid-range Android phone, faced scrutiny under Nelson’s infamous durability tests.
Nelson, known for his JerryRigEverything channel, subjected the HTC U24 Pro to a series of torturous tests, exposing its strengths and weaknesses. While the phone managed to withstand the infamous bend test, other aspects raised eyebrows.
HTC, once a leading name in the smartphone industry with iconic models like the HTC Touch Pro and HTC One (M8), faced a decline. However, the HTC U24 Pro aims to rekindle the brand’s glory, promising enhanced durability and performance.
HTC U24 Pro Durability: The JerryRigEverythingTest
The first test involved the screen’s scratch resistance. Unlike HTC’s earlier models, which used level 9 sapphire crystal, the U24 Pro’s Gorilla Glass display begins to scratch at level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7. While this is standard for most modern smartphones, it marks a shift from HTC’s previous use of more robust materials.
The phone’s build quality also came under scrutiny. Nelson tests the device’s structural integrity by scraping the aluminum frame and plastic rear panel. While the frame withstood the scraping, the plastic back shows vulnerability. In a moment of levity, Nelson carved a headstone into the panel, demonstrating its malleability.
The HTC U24 Pro’s most significant challenge lay in the bend test. In this test, Nelson applied pressure to assess the phone’s ability to resist bending. The U24 Pro emerged from the test intact, a testament to its structural design. Nelson noted that previous HTC models were notoriously difficult to disassemble, but the U24 Pro appears more accessible for repair.
The durability of the HTC U24 Pro is particularly significant as it marks a potential comeback for HTC in the competitive smartphone market.
Specifications of the HTC U24 Pro
Launched in the mid-range Android market, the HTC U24 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. It features a 6.8-inch curved OLED panel with 1080 x 2436 (FHD+) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, expandable via a microSD card. With an IP67 rating, the device boasts dust and water protection, an essential feature for users who seek durability.
On the camera front, the HTC U24 Pro sports a triple camera setup at the back, including a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. Notably, the phone does not include a periscope lens. The battery capacity stands at 4600mAh, with 60W fast charging support. A notable feature is the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, a rarity in modern smartphones.
