As expected, OnePlus has just launched the OnePlus Open Alex Edition. The new variant of the OnePlus foldable flagship is being offered in an eye-catching Crimson Shadow colorway. However, the color isn’t the only new thing about the latest version. The OnePlus Open Alex Edition is specced to the top with 1TB of storage, a new VIP mode, and AI editing features.
The crimson-red Open Apex Edition boasts a VIP security mode and 1TB storage
The biggest highlight of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition is the presence of a dedicated security chip and a new VIP mode. The enhanced security mode can be switched on using the alert slider. Once activated, this mode turns off permissions to the microphones and cameras at the hardware level to provide complete privacy. The rest of the phone and features work as usual, but no app is permitted access to the mics and cameras.
The standard OnePlus Open offers you 16GB of RAM and a maximum of 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. However, with the Apex Edition, you get a whopping 1TB of internal storage, which comes in handy when recording 4K videos. By adding more storage, OnePlus’ foldable will compete better against the likes of the Galaxy Fold, which also offers 1TB of storage.
Furthermore, the Open Apex Edition is loaded with a few AI-powered image editing tools. It has AI Eraser and AI Cutout functionalities, which were already released for the regular OnePlus Open recently. The rest of the specs of the Apex Edition are the same as the regular variant.
The upgrades cost $200 more than the regular OnePlus Open
The Open Apex Edition carries a hefty price tag of $1,899,99. It means that all the new upgrades will cost you $200 more than the regular OnePlus Open. The phone will go on sale starting from August 8. Notably, the OnePlus Open (review) is getting a limited-period price cut with the launch of the new edition. From August 8 to August 30, the standard variant’s price is reduced to $1,399.99.
