Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC brings on-device AI features to more affordable devices

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is a toned-down variant of the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 SoC that launched earlier this year. The new chipset brings on-device AI capabilities to lower-priced smartphones. It integrates some of the AI power of the 7 Plus Gen 3 into a more affordable SoC.

Essentially, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 aims to provide advanced generative AI functionalities available to more devices. The new chipset has support for various LLMs (Large Language Models) including Baichuan-7B and Llama 2 at 1B parameters. The company claims the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3’s AI Engine offers over 30% better AI performance compared to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.

New mid-tier SoC promises 20% better performance and 45% higher power saving

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset delivers 20 percent better CPU performance than its predecessor. Its new Adreno GPU offers 40% higher performance than the previous-gen offering. Furthermore, the brand claims that the new Kryo CPU delivers nearly 45 percent higher power saving. The company also mentioned that users can “Scroll, stream, and stay connected for longer with 12 percent power savings”.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC sports a 1+3+4 core configuration. It has a Cortex-A720 Kryo Prime core with a clock speed of up to 2.5GHz. There are three Cortex-A720 Kryo Performance cores maxing out at 2.4GHz. Lastly, the new SoC has four Cortex-A520 Kryo Efficiency cores at up to 1.8GHz clock speed. Based on the TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process, the chipset supports devices with up to full HD+ screen resolution and 144Hz refresh rate.

The camera system is improved on the new chipset with features like 12-bit triple ISP and 4K sHDR. The chipset supports 200MP snapshots, 64MP single capture, 4K HDR videos, and up to 21MP triple camera modules.

Samsung, Sharp, Xiaomi, and Realme will launch devices with the latest Qualcomm chipset
