At the August 13 Made by Google event, the Mountain View giant not only unveiled the Pixel 9 series but also shared new capabilities of Gemini. Among them, one such was related to Google Assistant Routines. Now, you can trigger the Google Assistant Routines on your Android device using the Gemini mobile app.
You can finally start your Google Assistant Routines using the Gemini Android app
When Google first launched the Gemini app in February, many users complained that Google Assistant Routines didn’t work with it. Back then, users saw an error message saying “Shortcuts to start a Routine and Routines attached to alarms in the Clock app no longer work.” However, the feature seemingly returned with a new update. Following the update, you can finally set Google Assistant Routines using the Gemini mobile app.
You can now say “start [routine]” and Google Assistant triggers within the Gemini app to run it. You can access the feature quite easily. First, you need to go to “Gemini Settings.” Then, head to the “Google Assistant features in Gemini” menu. Next, you’ll need to navigate to the “Routines” tab.
There are a few limitations, though
No doubt, the ability to trigger routines using the Gemini mobile app is great. Sadly, there are some limitations to it. Google notes “Not all starters or actions are supported when you use a Routine with Gemini.” That’s not all, you can’t trigger Google Assistant Routines by typing a command and scheduled times. Also, you can’t trigger it using location-based activation as well as home screen shortcuts.
Lastly, the feature still doesn’t support many actions like playing your favorite music, sharing fitness data, or reciting poems. That said, we expect Google to lift all these restrictions to help users make the most out of the amazing AI-powered feature in the near future.
