TikTok will now help identify the movies and TV shows from the brief clippings on the platform. The app will also help users discover the source or streaming service on which the content would be available.

TikTok to identify movies and shows using AI and Machine Learning

TikTok has millions of interesting ultra-short videos. However, there’s been a long-running trend of posting a clip from TV shows or movies.

More often than not, these captivating clips do not mention the original show or movie from which it has been sourced. The uploaders do not state or tag the source upfront.

Needless to say, this forces viewers to request the name. Incidentally, this is a sneaky trick to boost engagement. Uploaders intentionally delay or avoid posting the name of the show or movie. Viewers have to crawl through the comments section, hoping someone will offer the relevant information.

Moving forward, TikTok will ensure viewers gain the desired information. Whenever TikTok’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms identify the clip, the app will add an anchor link that will lead users to a dedicated landing page.

How will TikTok help viewers reach the source of the context-less clippings?

There are dozens of reliable databases that offer most of the relevant information about movies, documentaries, and TV shows. However, TikTok intends to keep viewers on the platform.

The anchor link appended to identifiable clips will lead viewers to a dedicated page for the source. This page will reportedly include a synopsis, cast info, and official accounts. TikTok will also suggest clips and videos that are related to the same titles. In other words, viewers would remain on TikTok and go through related content.

The dedicated landing page will, however, mention details about the streaming services that offer the content. Additionally, the page will also suggest a way to procure tickets for the content if it is currently showing in theaters.

Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube have become an integral part of promotions and marketing exercises owing to their popularity and engagement. Hence, the “TikTok Spotlight” could serve as an additional revenue stream for movie studios. TikTok will also grant movie and TV show publishers access to engagement analytics.

Incidentally, TikTok has indicated that is open to collaborating with influential content creators. The ByteDance-owned platform would also incentivize the TikTok Spotlight feature for creators to actively publicize movies and TV shows.
