Xiaomi is reportedly once again working on its in-house smartphone chipset solution. A report in June indicated that the company has collaborated with China’s Unisoc (formerly Spreadtrum) for its next processor. Now, a tipster, Yogesh Brar, has shared some details regarding Xiaomi’s next chipset. Brar suggests that Xiaomi will launch its next-gen in-house SoC in H1 2025.
Xiaomi’s next in-house SoC is coming in H1 2025 with a 5G modem from Unisoc
According to the tipster, Xiaomi’s upcoming in-house SoC will be based on TSMC’s older N4P manufacturing processor and will launch in H1 2025. Notably, the chipset will have performance numbers similar to the likes of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The Qualcomm processor powered many flagship devices in 2021 and 2022.
Furthermore, the tipster claims that the next Xiaomi smartphone solution will be utilizing a 5G modem from Unisoc. The first details about Xiaomi’s new SoC will be revealed in the first half of 2025. In addition, the source mentioned that “2025 is a big year for Xiaomi with many revolutionary products in the pipeline”. The official name of Xiaomi’s new custom SoC was not provided by Brar at the moment.
Xiaomi could use the chip to power its mid-range smartphones
If the report is true, Xiaomi could use its new in-house SoC to power its mid-range smartphones. By employing TSMC’s 4nm N4P process, the chip will be a whole generation behind the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 SoCs. Thus, it’s unlikely that Xiaomi will be using it for high-end devices. Although TSMC’s 4nm N4P process is old, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 flagship SoCs still utilize this tech.
Xiaomi had already previously released the Xiaomi Mi 5c in 2017 with its in-house Surge S1 SoC. However, the brand abandoned plans for the successor, the Surge S2 chip, back in 2022. Since the cost of the chipsets is rising, it would be wise for Xiaomi to create its in-house custom solutions.
