Google is actively embedding Gmail’s AI features directly into Gemini Assistant. This means certain users will now be able to get Gmail AI tools and features within Gemini itself.
Gmail Gen AI features now infusing into Gemini Assistant
Google has been actively unleashing the power of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) into Gmail. These Gen AI features from Gmail, are now reportedly making their way back into the dedicated Gemini Assistant app.
The Google App for Android (version 15.37.41.29.arm64) contains some features, which the Android Authority team managed to activate. These new, and as-yet-unreleased, features are ready for action while an email is open on the screen.
When users summon Gemini, while an email is open on the screen, a specific set of suggestion chips appears. Interestingly, these are the same set of Gen AI features that Google started offering in the Gmail app, be it on a smartphone or a desktop.
It appears that the Gemini Assistant interface is now geared up to offer Gen AI tools using Gmail as the source or database. Specifically speaking, the virtual assistant can summarize an email, suggest a reply, and list action items.
Gmail’s AI tools also include the ability to suggest the next steps and draft email replies. Users can accomplish all these tasks with just a few clicks. It appears the Gemini Assistant will now be able to accomplish these tasks.
Google integrating Gmail AI into Gemini for a select few paying users
Gmail’s Gen AI features now enhance Gemini’s existing abilities. In other words, Gemini Assistant can already read on-screen content and provide actionable insights or suggestions. Gaining Gmail’s AI tools would make the virtual assistant even more relevant and potent, especially in the email communication department.
Google started offering its Gemini AI to all users a few months ago. The Gen AI assistant is quite powerful and versatile. However, not all of its features and functions are available to general or non-paying users.
Currently, Gmail users who wish to unlock the power of Gen AI must enroll in Google’s free Workspace Labs program or a Google One AI Premium subscription. Google would most likely reserve access to the Gemini assistant’s Gmail-specific features to such paying users.
