Premium smartwatches, like the Apple Watch series, are characterized by advanced health monitoring capabilities. Big brands are constantly working on not only improving current features but adding new ones. Now, Apple has announced the arrival of sleep apnea detection for its smartwatches, including the new Apple Watch Series 10.
Apple made some big announcements during its product launch event today. One of them was the Apple Watch Series 10 launch. However, the introduction of the sleep apnea detection feature is not far behind. According to the company, it will arrive on the Apple Watch Series 10 and 9, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Sleep apnea is a condition that disrupts breathing during sleep for those who suffer from it. In addition to Apple, Samsung has also been working hard on adding this feature to its Galaxy Watch devices. Earlier this year, the South Korean giant received FDA approval for its implementation in the US. Months later, in July, some Galaxy Watch users received the sleep apnea detection as part of the One UI Watch 6 beta. The latter is still in the works, so the company has not carried out a mass rollout of the feature.
Meanwhile, Apple is waiting for the green light from the FDA to start the rollout. No ETA has been set, but the company says that sleep apnea detection will be available in over 150 countries and regions. On the other hand, Samsung has not yet revealed how broad its rollout will be.
Apple appears to be very proud of its latest development and is bragging about it. The company defined a new metric called “breathing disturbances” that uses the accelerometer of its watches for its operation. The Apple Health app will show the values of nocturnal breathing disturbance in an easy-to-understand way. Additionally, Apple says it conducted an “unprecedented” study to validate that sleep apnea detection works properly on its watches.
