YouTube has already adopted new rules for AI-generated content on the platform as part of Google‘s responsible AI practices. In the latest news, the platform is developing new tools to protect creators and artists from AI copycats.

In a blog post, YouTube announced that the new likeness management tech will help to safeguard its creators and partners while enabling them to “harness AI’s creative potential” by promoting responsible AI development.

According to the announcement, YouTube is working on a new synthetic-singing identification technology within Content ID. It will reportedly allow partners to automatically detect and manage AI-generated content on YouTube that simulates their singing voices. “We’re refining this technology with our partners, with a pilot program planned for early next year.,” notes the blog post.

Since 2007, the Content ID system has provided granular control to rightsholders across their entire catalogs on YouTube. It includes billions of claims processed every year—while simultaneously generating billions in new revenue for artists and creators through the reuse of their work.

As part of the responsible approach to AI, YouTube is also developing another new tool that “will enable people from a variety of industries—from creators and actors to musicians and athletes—to detect and manage AI-generated content showing their faces on YouTube.” With the platform’s latest privacy updates, this will create a robust set of tools to manage the use of AI to depict people on YouTube.

YouTube to better protect content from unauthorized access

YouTube is committed to protecting content from unauthorized access while improving user experience through AI and machine learning. They use uploaded content to enhance features like recommendations, Trust & Safety, and AI tools such as auto dubbing, in accordance with creators’ terms.

To prevent unauthorized scraping, YouTube enforces strict measures, including blocking access to violators. Moving forward, YouTube will offer creators more control over how third parties use their content for AI tools, with further updates coming later this year.

YouTube’s new generative AI tools, like Dream Screen for Shorts, offer creators innovative ways to enhance their content while maintaining control over the creative process. AI-generated content must still adhere to YouTube’s Community Guidelines, and creators are responsible for ensuring compliance.

YouTube has built safeguards into its AI tools to prevent misuse, including blocking policy-violating prompts. Creators are encouraged to carefully review AI-generated content before publishing, and YouTube is open to feedback as it refines these tools.
