The Sony Xperia 5 II is shaping up to be a pretty impressive device from the company. And we have just about every detail about Sony’s new flagship smartphone.

AndroidHeadlines can confirm that the Xperia 5 II is a flagship smartphone from Sony, it won’t be announced at IFA next week. Instead, Sony will announce it on September 17.

Sony’s Xperia 5 II will sport a 6.1-inch display with high-refresh rate

The Xperia 5 II will sport a 6.1-inch Full HD+ HDR OLED display. Complete with a 21:9 aspect ratio, as Sony is continuing with its CinemaWide marketing for its smartphones. And it also sports 120Hz refresh rate – with 240Hz Touch scanning rate. That means that Sony is the latest to join the 120Hz club.

Those wondering just how big the Xperia 5 II is, well, it’s still quite compact. With dimensions of 158 x 68 x 8mm, and that is almost identical to its predecessor (Sony managed to shave .2mm off the thickness).

Under-the-hood, the Xperia 5 II is running the Snapdragon 865 chipset (notably, not the Snapdragon 865 Plus), 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Sony is keeping the micro SD card slot here, allowing users to expand storage.

Naturally, since the Snapdragon 865 chipset is running the show here, this is going to be a 5G smartphone.

Sony has equipped this smartphone with a 4,000mAh capacity battery. And there is also USB-C PD for fast charging available for quick top ups.

Surprisingly, it has a headphone jack. Even more surprising, the first Xperia 5, released last September, didn’t have one. Style points for Sony there.

The camera setup looks promising

One of the biggest questions with Sony smartphones, has to do with why their cameras always lag behind the competition. Sony makes some of the best mirrorless cameras in its Alpha lineup. And it also supplies the majority of smartphones with its sensors. Yet the Pixel, and Galaxy smartphones always seem to outperform it.

Last year, Sony made a big deal about its Alpha team working with its mobile team to create some epic cameras. But that wasn’t the case with the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5. The Xperia 1 II released earlier this year was incredible, so the Xperia 5 II may follow in its footsteps.

On the backside, there are three cameras. These include an ultra-wide, wide and telephoto lens. The first camera is a 12-megapixel sensor, with a f/1.7 aperture. This is a 24mm lens, with an 82-degree field-of-view.

The second camera is the telephoto lens. This is also 12-megapixels and has an aperture of f/2.4. It’s a 3X zoom lens, so don’t expect any crazy zooming out of the Xperia 5 II like some of Samsung’s newer smartphones.

Finally, we have the ultra-wide lens, which is also 12-megapixels. It sports an aperture of f/2.2 and a focal length of 16. This has a pretty wide field-of-view at 124-degrees. That is wider than the LG Velvet’s ultra-wide at 120-degrees. As well as the newly announced Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (also 120-degrees).

On the video side of things, users will be able to record at in 4K HDR at up to 120fps. Meaning you can film slow-motion at 4K HDR, which is rather impressive. There is also OIS and EIS for Video, and Optical SteadyShot, which is Sony’s name for its hybrid OIS/EIS stabilization in video.
