The PS5 may still be somewhat new and that means there aren’t a large number of PS5-only games out for it yet, but there are plenty to get players started, and we decided to put together a list of the best PS5 games worth your money if you own the console, or plan to get one soon. Should you have been on the receiving end of one for a gift or if you’ve had one since launch day, or any time in between then and now, these are the best PS5 games that the console has to offer you at this point in time.

Keeping that in mind, this list is subjective and it’s going to be rotating with new PS5 games that we feel are the best options as more and more come out. The list will rotate mostly on a monthly basis. That said, if you’re not quite sure what to get for your new console, or for the person you picked up the new console for as a gift, this handy guide can help.

God Of War Ragnarok

God Of War: Ragnarok is the follow-up to the remake that came out in April of 2018, and it’s a game that you definitely want to try out if you liked the 2018 release. And trying it out is even easier than ever thanks to the game having an available trial download.

You’ll need a PS Plus Premium subscription to access the trial. But if that’s not an issue then you can dive into the first three hours of the game to get a handle on things. If you like it, you can then purchase the full game and play till your thumbs fall off. In Ragnarok you’ll find much of the amazing combat from the first game, but both Kratos and Atreus will have now and powerful abilities to make combat even more devastating.

While not the only game worth getting a PS5 for, it’s definitely one of the best reasons to own one.

Trek To Yomi

Trek To Yomi puts you in the shoes of a young samurai named Hiroki who is bound by duty to protect his village and the people he loves. Throughout his journey, Hiroki must deal with the tragedies of loss and confront the evils that will test his honor. Before finally deciding the path of his future.

Crossing between life and death is a big theme throughout the game. And its inspirations taken from Japanese Shinto mythology play a heavy role in telling Hiroki’s story. Featuring stylish sword combat, cinematic presentation, and multiple difficulty levels, Trek To Yomi is a gift to PlayStation owners wrapped with neat little bow. It also feels like a love letter to Akira Kurosawa films. Maybe more so than Ghost Of Tsushima (one of my personal favorite games) with its Kurosawa mode.

The game also features numerous collectible items that offer an enrichment to the lore, as well as enjoyable puzzles to mix up the gameplay and provide a brief break from the challenges of sword combat. Plus, at $20 this is definite must-have game.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is the latest FromSoftware game coming from Bandai Namco. Which means if you’re up for a brutal challenge then this is the game for you. Those who loved previous FromSoftware games will also want to check it out if they haven’t already done so.

Like those past games, Elden Ring delivers you up to a smattering of difficult boss fights and powerful weapons and armor. Unlike those past games though, Elden Ring takes place in a massive open world environment. Which means you can explore a lot more and doing so is encouraged. Because you never know what you might find. For many, this is easily going to be 2022’s game of the year. And it would be well-deserved. As this is definitely one of the best PS5 games to play right now.

Diablo IV

Diablo IV is finally here for those with early access, or anyone who’s willing to pick up the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of the game before its June 6 launch. With a rich class system and tons of varied build opportunities for each class, on top of intense and fulfilling combat, Diablo IV is hands down one of this year’s best games, and I’d say a shoe in for game of the year.

This is really the best Diablo has ever been, and it’s a worthwhile pickup if you love the franchise. But it’s an excellent game choice even if you’re new to the world of Diablo. From the compelling story in the campaign to the utter insanity of the endgame content, Diablo IV has loads of gameplay for you to sink your teeth into. Plus it supports cross-progression if you want the game on multiple platforms, and it features cross-play. It also allows for partying up with friends for online co-op in groups of up to four players.

And on console there’s also a couch co-op feature. Or you could choose to travel the world of Sanctuary all on your own. There’s many ways to play Diablo IV. No matter how you play it, you just need to play it.

Stray

Stray is a game in which you play the role of a stray cat who is trying to make it back to its family. During your adventure you’ll meet unlikely companions in a long-forgotten city who just might be able to help you accomplish your goal. Filled with mystery, intrigue, and wonderfully relaxing gameplay, Stray lets you see the world through the eyes of a cat in ways you never knew you wanted.

From climbing buildings to sleeping the day away, there’s lots to love here for cat fans. You’ll even stumble upon playful elements that make the whole experience even more worthwhile. Like a trophy where you get your head stuck in a paper bag after investigating what it is. At $30 (or free if you have PS Plus Extra or Premium), Stray is a must-have game for PS5.

Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII Reunion

Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII Reunion is an absolute must-have game for PS5 owners. Released on December 13, this installment in the Final Fantasy series is a prequel to the Final Fantasy VII story. And if you’re planning to play Final Fantasy VII Remake, you definitely want to play this as well. While we personally feel players should experience the original Final Fantasy VII first, chronologically this game comes first.

But honestly, play them in any order you want. Just play this game. Crisis Core follows the story of Zack Fair, an up and coming member of SOLDIER who wants to be the hero. Fans who never got the chance to play the original Crisis Core on PSP, will finally get to see what people have been talking about all these years.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II

From the riveting campaign to the high-octane multiplayer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is one of the best games on PS5 right now. Naturally, most people buy this game for the multiplayer. And it’s easy to see why this year. It’s insanely good. For starters, Infinity Ward has revamped the weapons system to include a varied and customizable weapon collection. You can add on all kinds of attachments like before, but now it feels like there’s more of them. You can even tune attachments to adjust the level of benefits they give your loadout.

On top of all that, unlocking and leveling weapons seems to be a lot easier than before. And if you’re not someone who plays this game 24/7, there’s always going to be something to unlock for a long time. Pair that with a good collection of modes, solid gun play, and an upcoming season one with the battle pass and even more new modes, and you have a real winner here. Call Of Duty is back and at the top of its game. This is the pinnacle of multiplayer shooters.

Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart is a must-play game even if you’ve never played any of the previous titles in the franchise. For one, it makes use of the cool new features on the DualSense controller. Something which not many games on the PS5 currently do.

Beyond that though, it’s just a fun game to play. There’s a wonderful story and gameplay overall leaves you feeling satisfied. It’s a title you can dive into and easily go blow through hours of it. Losing track of time because of how much fun you’re having.

Your job is to stop an interdimensional robot who aims to destroy cross-dimensional worlds. You’ll acquire new weapons and power ups that weren’t feature in previous games, and there’s even a gun which can bring items into the game world from other dimensions. Like the giant robot dinos from Horizon: Zero Dawn.

This is also a game that’s rated E for Everyone, which means it’s a cool game for players of a younger age. Compared to a lot of other games on this list, which are really not kid-friendly.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Capcom has been on a roll with the remakes of its classic survival horror titles in the Resident Evil franchise, the latest being the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Players are in for a treat with the reimagining of this classic game. The original still holds a special place in the hearts of those that completed it following its 2005 release. And it was so good that Capcom had an uphill battle in trying to recreate the masterstroke it achieved with the original. Whether or not the remake is better is not for us to say. But it is good. Really good. And if you enjoy survival horror games, and are a fan of the RE franchise, then you definitely need to play the RE 4 remake.

Trust us, you’ll be glad you did.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade/Episode INTERmission

The original Final Fantasy VII Remake launched in 2020, but this year Sony released the upgraded version of the game for PS5. Titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the game is no different from the original when it comes to the actual content within the game. You do however get upgraded visuals and a faster frame rate option thanks to the PS5 hardware.

More importantly though, Intergrade comes with the new Episode INTERmission DLC which is new content. In this DLC you get to play as two new characters. Yuffie and Sonon. Though Sonon is more of a backup character and you can’t directly control him the way you can with Barret, Tifa, and Aerith as the main controlled character.

If you don’t already own the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, then you can pick up the Intergrade version which comes with the Yuffie DLC as part of the bundle. If you do own the PS4 version, you get to upgrade to the PS5 version for free. You then pay just $20 for the Yuffie DLC.

In Episode INTERmission, you set out as Yuffie, coming to Midgar while working with Avalanche to infiltrate Shinra and steal its powerful new Ultimate Materia. It’s a wild and crazy ride that is definitely worth experiencing. Especially if you’ve played the original Final Fantasy VII from the 90s and you want a super dose of nostalgia.
