Hulu + Live TV is a pretty great streaming Live TV service. But it may not be for everyone. So some users may want to cancel their Hulu + Live TV subscription, or at least pause it and save some money. As we approach Hulu’s next price increase in a couple of days – jumping from $65 to $70 per month – there’s likely to be quite a few people looking to cancel their account.
So here’s how you cancel your Hulu + Live TV subscription.
How to cancel Hulu + Live TV
Login to your Hulu account on a desktop or mobile device by going to the website. This cannot be done from the app, unfortunately.
Click on your name or profile photo in the upper-right hand corner, and click on Account.
From there, scroll down to the bottom, and find “Cancel your Subscription” and click on “Cancel”. This is at the very bottom of the page.
From there, you’ll see an option to switch to regular Hulu. Or to pause your account. If you don’t want to do either, click on “Continue to Cancel” it’s a black button at the very bottom of the page.
On the next screen, you will see Hulu asking why you are leaving. Unlike other services, you do need to click on one, and then click “Continue to Cancel”.
Because Hulu doesn’t want to lose you as a customer, it will offer you a month of Hulu for free. If you want to take advantage of that, tap on the “Take offer” button. If not, click on “Cancel Subscription” at the bottom.
And now you’ll see a confirmation about your cancellation. From there, you can tap on the “Go to account” button.
Now that your account is canceled, you will not get charged when it renews. But you will still have access to your account until the end of your billing cycle. Hulu does not prorate like some cable companies might.
Should I pause it instead?
You also have the option to pause your account instead of just straight up canceling it. Basically what pausing your account does, is put it on pause. So you won’t get charged while it is paused, but you also won’t be able to use the service. This will keep your recordings intact, as well as anything you’ve put into “My Stuff”.
Pausing is a good option if you want to return to Hulu + Live TV in a couple of months. Hulu will let you pause for a period of 1 week up to 12 weeks. So you can pause your account for as long as three months. Which is quite nice. Especially if you have a lot of shows you watch in the fall and winter, but nothing in the summer. You could pause your account then and save some cash.
That’s one of the beautiful things about cord-cutting. Is that you can pause it whenever you want, and save some money. Which is definitely really nice.
