Samsung left out a few goodies in the box with the Galaxy S21 series this year, and that includes a screen-protector. There is no screen protector pre-installed on the Galaxy S21 this year. Which also means that you don’t have to worry about whether it is safe to remove it or not.

When we unboxed our Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Ultra review units a couple of weeks ago, we noticed that there was no screen protector pre-installed. We chalked it up to being an early unit, and possibly not being the retail units. But now that retail units have been shipping this week and are now in customers hands. It looks like no one is getting a screen protector pre-installed on their Galaxy S21.

So if you need a screen protector for your Galaxy S21 – and you do – make sure to check out our list of the best screen protectors for the Galaxy S21.

Ironically, there is plastic on every other surface of the Galaxy S21. The back, as well as the sides.

Why is this a big deal?

This is a big deal, because a lot of people will keep that pre-installed screen protector on their phone, after they take it out of the box. Especially if the screen protector they purchased has not yet arrived. So they can protect that display longer.

But Samsung isn’t giving users that choice this year. However, on the flip side, it means we don’t have a screen protector with a hole in the middle of it for the fingerprint sensor.

This year, any and every screen protector will work with the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Thanks to the new sensor from Qualcomm. Which could be a reason why Samsung decided to omit the pre-installed screen protector this year on the Galaxy S21.

Though, it’s also very likely we’ll never know why they decided too.

But you are going to need to buy one for your Galaxy S21.
