Information:

The world long awaiting the Oppo N1 from the Chinese based company – touting one handed use in a phablet sized device and unprecedented pictures from their famous rotating 13MP camera head – unfortunately neither one came to fruition.  The Oppo N1 itself is beautifully designed out of polycarbonate with a metal ring holding it all together.  It is not a 4G LTE device, but can achieve 4G speeds on AT&T and T-Mobile's HSPA+ network.  It can be purchased from Oppo's website and will run you $599 for a 16GB model and $649 for a 32GB model – there is no expansion available.

The Oppo N1 has a 5.9-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 373 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  The Oppo N1 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 320 GPU.  This is coupled to 2GB of RAM and either 16 or 32GB of internal storage – no expansion.

The highly touted camera is 13MP with auto-focus and a dual-LED flash – it can rotate and become the front-facing camera as well – making for a great video chat or selfie, but the camera itself just does not take great pictures…good, but not great.  It also has a sensor touch panel on the back of the phone to allow you to use your index finger to help navigate the large display – it works to an extent, but plan on using two hands. It uses a huge 3610mAh battery for great battery life.  It has a single bottom mounted speaker that works well.  The Oppo N1 also runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but is supposed to upgraded to 4.4 KitKat soon along with the new Color OS 2.0.

Oppo N1 Editor Rating:

The Oppo N1 is a nice device – beautiful to look at and with a premium feel and large 5.9-inch display.  It does many thing well, but nothing really great – the camera is not the Godsend that Oppo made it out to be and the one-handed sensor touch back panel works only moderately well.  If it was not so expensive, one could be a little more forgiving for this 3G device – yes it will work on the HSPA+ network, but you are restricted to AT&T and T-Mobile, and it is still not LTE.  They opted for the Snapdragon 600 when the 800 was available – I guess I was hoping for a little more for the many teases Oppo sent out and for the price.
