Brittney Griner Reveals the Name She Wants Her Newborn Son Bash to Call Her

Brittney Griner is sharing new details about life with her baby boy.

News broke that the WNBA star, 33, and her wife Cherelle Griner welcomed their first child, a son named Bash, on Friday, July 19. While speaking on CBS Sports’ "We Need to Talk," the Phoenix Mercury player confirmed that the newest addition to their family arrived on Monday, July 8, and revealed she hopes her son will call her "pops" instead of "mom."

CBS news anchor Terrika Foster-Brasby excitedly congratulated Griner, saying, "You're about to be a mom!"

"Pops! Pops!" Griner quickly interjected, politely correcting Foster-Brasby's language.

It was in the same interview that Griner initially revealed the birth of her son. "I'm super excited. Well, I mean I guess I'll just drop it... he's here. 7/8/24. Seven pounds eight ounces," the new mom shared. "Yeah, that's my man!'

"He is amazing," she added.

Griner continued, "They said as soon as you see them, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window. That's literally what happened."

The basketball star is gearing up to head overseas to represent Team USA for the third time at the Olympics. "It kind of sucks because I have to leave, but at the same time, he will understand,"

However, she’ll have plenty of photos available while she’s away in Paris.

"My whole phone has turned into him now," she continued.
