Around the world in 24 races: Belgium

Aston Martin F1

Breathtaking landscapes, bountiful activities, beautiful boltholes, together with our Global Luxury Luggage Partner Globe-Trotter, we explore Belgium in the build-up to the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ahead of the annual Formula One summer break, attention shifts to the storied Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. The track has hosted 70 Grands Prix since 1925 and boasts several intriguing features. At one point, the circuit spanned an impressive nine miles, winding its way through the picturesque Wallonian foothills and dense forests. The frequent rain in this region often adds drama to the races.

After a day of high-octane adventure, nothing surpasses exploring the compact yet stunning country of Belgium. It boasts Gothic towns like Bruges and, closer to the track, scenic mountains and rivers around Namur.

Explore Europe's capital

Brussels, from the EU HQ to the former Expo site in 1958, serves as a meeting point. Don't miss the unique Atomium and the adjacent Design Museum.

For an elegant stay, consider the Juliana – located in one of Brussels' oldest squares, steeped in history. Fortunate guests on the top floor can marvel at the historic architecture and the elegant restoration that has achieved such a stunning result. The basement hides a pool and spa, perfect for rainy Belgian afternoons.

Alternatively, in the city centre, try the Radisson Blu for comfort or the Hilton on the Grand Place for all your needs.

What's new in Belgium

Hotel Pilar, nestled in Antwerp's finest district, stands as the ultimate place to stay. Outside its doors, a delightful stretch of plazas and pavement cafes awaits. Inside, this soulful indie boutique bolthole combines bare concrete with quirky touches. Exciting room redesigns are underway, adding even more energy into the compelling mix that includes excellent dining downstairs.

Antwerp thrives on art, with new exhibitions and galleries constantly emerging. Keep an eye on M HKA as it is soon to announce the winner of an open competition among architects to design its new permanent home in the city. Meanwhile, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts has just reopened after a decade-long refurbishment.

How to take joy in the journey

If you're seeking two-wheeled thrills, Belgium is the place to be. Explore Wallonia by bike. Start by taking in the inspiring Eifel Hills National Park and the picturesque Chateau Reinhardstein. From there, cross into Germany and follow bike paths to historic Cologne, known for its beer halls and ancient Dom.

For a unique stay, consider the Wasserturm – a former water tower with an edgy vibe. Alternatively, the 25 Hours Hotel here, located in a converted office block called The Circle, boasts mid-century decor and a brilliant bar/restaurant with a record shop.

Continue your journey to arty Dusseldorf, where parks, boulevards, shops, and galleries abound. The 25 Hours Hotel Das Tour in Dusseldorf is full of French flair and a fantastic rooftop eatery.
