Discovering the Impact of Production: A Conversation with Max Fancher of MVP

Commercial Producer Interview Max Fancher

Join Aura Casting as we delve into the world of production with Max Fancher, owner/founder of MVP.

In this exclusive interview, Max shares his insights on the art of producing, the importance of community, and the keys to fostering a positive on-set environment. Let's explore the journey of creativity, collaboration, and camaraderie in the realm of filmmaking!

Embracing Creativity and Collaboration

At MVP, storytelling is not simply creating content, but fostering connections while embracing artistry. To support these endeavors, Fancher's philosophy revolves around collaboration rather than competition. "The Bay Area is teeming with amazingly talented creators, and I truly believe that there's enough work for everyone," he reassures, emphasizing a shared journey with all artists.

Creativity is also expressed in the way they produce their projects. Owning their own production equipment allows them to scale according to varying budgets. And the star of the show? MVP’s Good People Mobile, a tricked out Mercedes Sprinter. The vehicle serves a lot of purpose beyond just transporting gear. It builds on Fancher's methods of organization and efficiency "In 2008, it was just me showing up to shoots with my trusty Subaru Outback stuffed full of gear," recalls Fancher. Over time, their van has evolved from transporting lights, grip equipment, and camera gear into a vehicle for building connections.

Community Impact

Bay Area Volunteer Work

MVP's business philosophy centers around the importance of finding and collaborating with like-minded individuals who prioritize kindness and authenticity. Max calls this, "Good People." "We want to be good people in our industry, in our community and on the planet. We only hire good people and we’re only interested in working with people who are in line with these shared values." Max emphasizes. Their Good People philosophy extends beyond the doors of MVP and into the community. Since 2022, Max has been collaborating with The City Eats, expanding the SF-based organization's work into Oakland. "We take our van, which we use for productions, and with a group of dedicated volunteers, we feed our unhoused neighbors hot meals and hot coffee every first Saturday of the month," Max adds. From providing meals and offering medical checks with a mobile team of providers, MVP uses its resources to help make a difference in the community.

Creating Meaningful Projects

Max also emphasizes the significance of partnering with Aura Casting, noting their shared values and mutual desire to make a positive impact. "One reason we love Aura is we feel there's a true partnership in that way of being good people. When you find a partner who sees the world the way you do, it’s the best," says Max. This collaboration has not only resulted in commercial successes but has also left a lasting impact on MVP’s community of cast and crewmates. “People tell us after every shoot that our productions are their favorites… and I’m really proud of that. Our latest project with Aura had a cast and crew of 50 people. Because of the awesome culture that MVP’s good people foster on set, it was a shoot I’ll never forget.”

Building a Seamless Production Process

Max shares insights into their techniques, leveraging AI tools and creativity during the pre-production phase to streamline workflows and elevate storytelling. "For us, the preproduction and planning is everything," Max emphasizes. "If we get clarity in that phase, then everything else flows smoothly." MVP utilizes tools like animated storyboards to help clients realize their vision. It's just one way MVP strives to produce a seamless experience and exceed their clients’ expectations.

Good People = Exceptional Work

"The dream for me is to do enough great projects with great people and provide as much for other people as we can," Max shares. For him and his team at MVP,  the industry is about more than just completing projects—it's about building a community of individuals who share a common ethos and strive to make a positive impact, both professionally and personally.

By prioritizing collaboration with individuals whose values align with theirs, MVP creates an environment where creativity flourishes and projects thrive. "Our clients don’t necessarily need to be out there saving the world, but if their values align with ours, and they’re attracted to our approach, there is a good probability that we’ll be a good fit," Max affirms.

Along with producing high quality content, MVP builds a sense of trust and camaraderie, allowing for the exploration of innovative ideas. When everyone involved shares a commitment to integrity, compassion, and excellence, the result does not simply lie in successful projects, but a thriving community of creatives dedicated to making a difference in the world.
