Amtrak announced their "Floridian" route which connects Chicago to Miami.

How long is that going to take? Well, 47 hours one way of course!

Comments exchange on social media: Liberty Freeman makes a query about the duration of a journey. Amtrak replies it takes approximately 47 hours one way

When I did my own search on the Amtrak website, I found a fair for $113 one way.

Flight itinerary from Chicago to Miami. Departure: Thursday, December 5 at 6:40 PM. Arrival: 6:09 PM on Saturday, December 7. Coach fare starts at $113

A bunch of people were excited about the whole thing.

But then others are a little shook by that whole 47 hours thing.

"What is this the damn Oregon trail?" another person chimed in.

Someone pointed out that it would take 20 hours to drive that distance.

Amtrak responded to that post, saying, "We hear you, Matthew, but this route gives us a chance to do the driving for you! Never mind the views are spectacular!"

Which, true, I'm sure the views are great!

A curved railroad track leads to a quaint town with trees, a brick building, and American flags lining the path. The scene suggests a peaceful, small-town setting

Some people are taking it as a challenge.

Should I be absolutely insane and take this 46 hour train ride with 44 stops? https://t.co/gceevgWoAX pic.twitter.com/dszY2Jyud3

And others are calling for bullet trains.

$236/ person for 38.5 hr trip
    Or
$171/ person for direct 2 hr 49 min flight

We need bullet trains, not upgrades to the outdated system https://t.co/D0i0TNV77i pic.twitter.com/OYqO6sNMgs
