Katy Perry's New Song (In My Humble Opinion) Is Beyond Hypocritical

Yeah, maybe don't pretend you're super into women's rights while working with an alleged abuser...

Warning: Discussion of rape.

Katy Perry's promotion for her upcoming song "Woman's World" continues to gain backlash.

The singer announced her follow-up to 2020's Smile last month, teasing an excerpt of the track featuring the lyrics, "Sexy, confident / So intelligent / She is heaven-sent / So soft, so strong." Further lyrics continue the "feminine divine" theme and general attempts at female empowerment.

However, the song immediately raised eyebrows as it appeared to be produced by Lukasz Gottwald — aka "Dr. Luke." Yes, the same producer who Kesha has accused of drugging and raping her, starting almost a decade of lawsuits (Dr. Luke has denied the allegations).

Amid the speculation, Kesha simply tweeted, "lol." Rolling Stone subsequently confirmed that Dr. Luke is working on Katy's sixth album.

Universal Music confirmed to BuzzFeed that Dr. Luke is a producer on her new album.

Subsequent promotional material for the track has thus garnered similar feedback:

Yesterday, Katy posted the first preview of the music video for "Woman's World" — which heavily features her dressed up as a sexy Rosie the Riveter.

During the snippet, Katy drinks from a bottle of "Whisky for Women," dances with vibrators, and sings, "It's a woman's world and you're lucky to be living in it." While the excerpt produced more commentary on her body than anything else, some continued to emphasize the connection between Dr. Luke and her.

Some also noted the similarity between a promotional video where Katy appears as a deflated doll before blowing herself up with an image from Kesha's promotion for her album Gag Order, where she lays next to an empty morphsuit of her own body.

Anyway, Kesha's first song as a "free woman" — "Joyride" — is now out.
