Guideline for Contribution

We welcome contributions related to pre-Islamic Iranian studies, which may be submitted directly to the current editor of CAIS.

Publications are made exclusively in digital format. Decisions regarding whether submissions will be published are made by the editor in consultation with the programme director of CAIS and, where appropriate, academic specialists. Contributions should be in English, with no set limit on length. The corresponding author will receive an email alert containing a link to the website. Therefore, a working email address must be provided for the corresponding author.

Editing

Most editing and formatting is done personally by the editor. However, please note that the editor prioritises clarity and style but prefers not to spend excessive time on rewriting. He is not responsible for verifying all facts and references. It is essential that submissions follow standard guidelines to minimise time-consuming issues:

Articles

  • Submit text formatted ONLY in Microsoft Word. Please supply the full text, date of the article, notes, and figures electronically as an email attachment, in a .doc file extension.
  • References to sources should be included in the text in parentheses, e.g., (Smith 1992: 25). Endnotes should be used only for essential explanations that do not fit in the main text. A list of references should include full bibliographic citations (author, including first name where available; title; volume and number if a journal; place and publisher if a book; date; pages if an article or section of a book). Please include authors’ or scholars’ first names if referring to them in your text.
  • Use standard transliteration in references. For citations in languages other than Western European, provide both transliterated and (in parentheses) translated titles. Generally, non-Latin characters are not preferred but may be included if essential for clarity. The editor, a specialist in Persian, has limited ability to verify or correct citations in other regional languages.
  • Submit illustrations as separate files, not embedded in the text. It is important to include a map where possible and appropriate; photographs or drawings may greatly enhance your text. While we may provide illustrations, our resources are limited, and time constraints may prevent us from drawing maps. Illustrations can be any size, but we can reduce images; enlarging them may cause pixelation. Tiffs or jpegs are acceptable, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi; 600 dpi or above is preferable. Ensure map lettering or drawing labels are legible and have sufficient contrast.
  • Large image files may not be delivered by the email system; reduce their size before sending.
  • Append a list of captions for illustrations to your text file and indicate in the text where illustrations should be placed, e.g., (Fig. 1). The list should indicate the sources of the images. If copyrighted, it is your responsibility to obtain copyright permission for their use in our non-profit educational online publication.
  • Provide contact information, including email address, mailing address, phone, and fax (if available). The editor may have questions, and if substantial editing is necessary, prefers the author to approve the final online copy before publication. Proofs are generally not sent unless specifically requested.
  • Optional: Include brief biographical information and a personal photo if desired. Some readers might wish to contact you if you include an email address.

Daily News Bulletins

Our daily news bulletin is intended for a general readership. Contributions should be well-informed and of interest to specialists but written for a non-specialist audience. This means minimising footnotes, using non-technical language, including transcription or transliteration of source texts only if essential, and avoiding diacritical marks where possible. The daily news bulletin is produced by volunteers.

Plagiarism

If any part of your article is based on someone else's work, please give them credit. Suspect articles will be deleted without prior notice. Please send your article(s) to: article-submissioncais-soas.com
