Blizzard is providing players with a way to pass the time until Diablo 3's release. They've published a "Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise" mini-site that offers players new assets from D3 as well as other exclusive rewards.
On the site, players can create custom banners. Banners are personal flags for your character that appear in game and show off your achievements and progression. You can create banners using your own art or art provided by Blizzard, and submit it to a "Hero of the Day" contest. Each winner of the contest will get a SteelSeries Diablo 3 mouse pad signed by the development team. You'll also unlock exclusive sigils (or icons) for your banner in the game itself simply by participating.
Creating a custom banner and submitting entries for the previously announced "Portrait of a Champion" art contest both serve a larger purpose. They'll advance a progress bar on the main page of the site. This progress will gradually unlock new interviews with the D3 development team as well as other preview content. Blizzard is planning a "truly epic unveiling" when the progress bar completely fills.
The site will also offer up a steady flow of information on each of D3's character classes. Every week, they'll highlight a different class with art, a video, and a short story.
Diablo 3 will launch worldwide on May 15th.
