Saalekreis is a county in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The district was established by merging the former counties of  Merseburg-Querfurt and of Saalkreis as part of the administrative reform of July 1, 2007
On the 1st Meeting of the parliament (Kreistag) of the county of Saalekreis on July 11, 2007 was adopted by district statute (Hauptsatzung) the new symbols.

Saalekreis Coat of Arms

Shield quartered; 1st quarter parted per fess into Gules over Argent; 2nd quarter Or a lion rampant Sable armed Gules; 3rd quarter Or a throughout cross Sable; 4th quarter barry of eight of Argent and Gules.
Meaning:
The quarters are representing the former rulers. The 1st quarter displays the arms of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg. The 2nd quarter displays the lion of the Wettin kin. The 3rd quarter displays the arms of the Bishopric of Merseburg. The 4th quarter displays the arms of the Querfurt kin. The upperquarters are also representing the former Saalkreis County, the lower quarters the former Merseburg-Querfurt County.

The arms were approved on 8 August 2007 by Minister of Interior of Saxony-Anhalt. Flag and banner were adopted on 12 July 2007.

Here are the flags of the Landkreis Merseburg-Querfurt according to its "Hauptsatzung". This county will merge with the Saalkreis on 1 Jul 2007 to the new Saale county (Saalekreis).

Saalkreis County (- 2007)

Here are the flags of (still) Saalkreis county.

The arms were confirmed on 3 January 2007 by Minister of Interior of Saxony-Anhalt, and already approved on 31 May 1937, probably by Oberpäsident of Prussian Saxony Province.
