Camera phone technology has progressed at warp speed over the past decade or so – and it seems that Samsung is due to take the next step forward. According to new reports, Samsung has partnered with software company Synopsys to create an AI tool named DSO.ai. This software is reportedly designed to accelerate how camera phone chips are developed by discovering new designs that humans might not have ever thought of.
The race to build better and faster chipsets has become a massive engineering task. These chips are often thought of as the 'brain' of your camera phone, enabling it to carry out complex tasks, such as running graphics-intensive apps, ensuring better screen resolution and more.

As reported by Wired (via Express), this DSO.ai program is already being used to develop high-end Exynos chips. Samsung uses these chipsets in its camera phones and other products, such as automotive products and smart watches. It's not clear whether any of these AI-designed chips have already hit the market, as Samsung has not confirmed which camera phone models the chips will appear in.
Aart de Geus, the chairman of Synopsys, says that using AI meant that his team "were able to get the same results as a team of experts would get in multiple months in just a few weeks".
While other companies including Google, Nvidia and IBM have all experimented with using AI to create chips, it seems that Samsung is currently leading the market. This exciting push forward in technology will be a definite boon for Samsung. As major chip suppliers (Google uses Samsung chips for the Google Pixel 6), Samsung's innovation could very likely end up boosting the computing industry as a whole.
With artificial intelligence becoming more popular, it seems likely that we'll see more products designed with the use of AI in the future.
