  • Upstream M&A deal flow cooled considerably in Q3’24, totaling only $12.7 billion in announced deals, following three red-hot prior quarters of deals worth over a combined $251 billion. The highest-value transactions this quarter once again centered on the US shale patch, but with asset deals more in favor than outright acquisitions, and in basins beyond the Permian. International activity was more limited this quarter, with major firms advancing various divestments and relinquishments. As a number of corporate acquisition deals formally conclude, shoring up balance sheets will be near-term focus, with additional assets expected to enter the market.
