Game of Thrones finale: ‘I was confused’ Charles Dance hits out at Tyrion Lannister ending
GAME OF THRONES has finished for good and the finale has divided opinion among fans. And, it seems former star Charles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister, was also slightly disappointed about the ending.
Game of Thrones: Charles Dance was 'confused' by final series
Tywin exited Game of Thrones in season four after being slain by his own son Tyrion Lannister (played by Peter Dinklage).
The HBO fantasy epic went on to last for eight series before it concluded last Sunday.
Today, Tywin star Charles appeared on Good Morning Britain where he spoke out about the ending, where he claimed he was “confused” by it.
He told hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard: “I was confused. I have watched as much as I can because there are characters like Daenerys, her character, my character, we never met at all, so we would only meet at press junkets and things.
I was confused
“I wanted to know what was happening to these characters...It got to the very end and I thought, ‘Hmm, ok.’
“There’s little Arya going off on a cruise somewhere, poor John’s gone back up North beyond the Wall.
“Then there is Tyrion, and all the people left alive are sat around the table. So well, what are we going to do now, shall we have a cup of tea or something?
“I thought, ‘ah, I don’t know’.”
Kate then asked: “You wanted Tyrion to come through and be the boss?”
“Me, personally, yes,” Charles confirmed.
Charles also spoke on the cast expectations for the series before it aired where he said no one expected it to be as hugely popular as it was.
He said: “I don’t think any of us did actually, we just got the feeling working on it.
“It was so well written and HBO spend a great deal of money on production values that you’d get in the cinema.
“We felt the thing was pretty good but none of us thought it would be the most successful television series of all time.”
While Tyrion didn’t end up on the Iron Throne, it was he who suggested the eventual ruler in Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright).
Gwendoline Christie reveals her 'weird crush'
Meanwhile, Tyrion was named Hand of the King by Bran although he did initially appeared reluctant.
He was joined on the small counsel by Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Bronn (Jerome Flynn), Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) and Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham).
