Team India will be in for a long day on Thursday, 4 July when they arrive in India via a charter flight from Barbados, with the Rohit Sharma-led side set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi followed by an open-top bus parade in Mumbai.
The Men in Blue were supposed to depart Barbados for New York on Monday morning before taking a connecting flight from Dubai for India a couple of days after winning the T20 World Cup for a second time.
However, the Indian cricketers were stuck in the island for three days due to Hurricane Beryl that has swept through the Caribbean, and were only able to fly out of Barbados in the early hours of Wednesday via a charter flight named AIC24WC — Air India Champions 24 World Cup.
The Indian cricketers and their families along with support staff, select BCCI officials and Indian mediapersons will now arrive in New Delhi on Thursday at 6 am from where Rohit Sharma and his men will proceed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The T20 world champions are then scheduled to fly to Mumbai on the same day, arriving in the financial capital in the evening from the national capital.
Rohit and Co will then have a kilometre-long open-top bus parade celebration in Marine Drive in the southern part of the city followed by a ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium, similar to the welcome MS Dhoni and his team received after their triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.
🇮🇳, we want to enjoy this special moment with all of you.
