Rohit Sharma believes the Indian cricket team team’s triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup was more “special” than the 2007 victory, as he was now leading the squad.

Following their victory over South Africa in the final, the Men in Blue returned home on 4 July to a warm reception in Delhi and Mumbai.

Fans enthusiastically welcomed the World Champions, with special events planned to celebrate their success. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the players for a breakfast meeting.

In the evening, a joyous open-roof bus parade was organised by the BCCI in Mumbai, allowing fans to get close to their favourite cricket stars.

In a video shared by the BCCI capturing the excitement of fans and players during the parade, India captain Rohit reflected on his previous T20 World Cup win as a player in 2007.

He considered the recent 2024 victory to be particularly special because he was the captain of the squad. Rohit expressed his joy in bringing happiness to the nation through their success.

“2007 was a different feeling, we started off in the afternoon and this is in the evening. I cannot forget 2007 as it was my first World Cup. This is little more special because I was leading the team so it’s a very proud moment for me.

“This is going to be mad. You can make out the excitement and it shows how much it means not just to us but also to the entire nation. It means a lot. So, I am very happy that we could achieve something like this for them as well,” said Rohit in a video released by BCCI.
