For the story of how this portrait came to be, read the description in my previous post. Our brief conversation was lively and upbeat, but when I raised the camera to photograph him, he dropped his smile. It wasn’t until I got home that I saw the sadness in his eyes. Photography keeps surprising me. Like so many of my photographs, it was such a simple encounter, but it wouldn’t have happened without my camera.
