Xiaomi has announced the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype during the 2024 Annual Speech by founder Lei Jun. This vehicle is the first to feature Xiaomi’s new HyperEngine V8s.
Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype
The prototype comes with three Xiaomi-developed motors: two V8s and one V6s. This setup delivers a maximum horsepower of 1548, surpassing even the 1,479 hp Bugatti Chiron.
The HyperEngine V8s can reach speeds of 27,200 rpm, generate 578 horsepower, and produce a peak torque of 635 Nm.
Battery
The SU7 Ultra Prototype also includes CATL’s Qilin 2.0 high-power battery, capable of a 1330 kW output and discharging 880 kW of power even at 20% SoC. The Qilin battery uses iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and supports 897V charging, enabling a full recharge in under 12 minutes.
Breaking system
For braking, the car has AP Racing high-performance brake calipers, six-piston forged fixed calipers at both front and rear, and racing brake pads that can handle over 800 degrees.
It also features motor reverse for brake energy recovery, providing 0.6G of braking force recovery and achieving deceleration of more than 2.36G, with a 0-100 km/h braking distance of only 25 meters.
Performance
Performance-wise, the SU7 Ultra Prototype can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 5.97 seconds, and reach 300 km/h in 15 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h.
Weighing just under 1,900 kg, it is lighter than the BMW M5, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. The car’s body is made entirely of carbon fiber for all 24 body panels, contributing to its low weight.
Design
Design changes from the standard SU7 include a large carbon fiber rear wing that generates up to 2,145 kg of downforce and modifications for improved aerodynamics, such as larger front vents, a front splitter, and side skirts.
The car measures 5260/2064/1406 mm with a 3000 mm wheelbase, making it wider and longer than the standard SU7.
Nürburgring
Xiaomi aims to set a new record for four-door electric sedans at the Nürburgring, where the current fastest electric car is the Volkswagen ID.R with a 6:05.336 lap time, and the fastest four-door is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT at 7:07.55.
They plan a record attempt in October and hope to set a production car lap time next year. Lei Jun says his goal is to make the fastest four-door EV at the Nürburgring within ten years, focusing on four-door vehicles to apply their technology to future production cars.
Availability
It’s unclear if the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype will be road-certified, but with 1548 hp and a top speed of 350 km/h, it aims to be the world’s fastest four-door car. The potential for mass production remains to be seen.
