The Annoying Thing Marvel Always Does That Loki Is Abandoning
Loki was one of Marvel’s first Disney+ shows, and it still stands as one of its best. In fact, it’s arguably one of the best MCU projects since Thanos was in Endgame. It appears that quality will continue on into Season 2, as the show will continue to give us slower, more character-driven moments rather than rushing things along like Marvel is sometimes prone to do.
It will be nice to see a Marvel show that takes its time to really dive deep into these characters, as it seems like the MCU has really just been going through the motions lately.
Executive producer Kevin Wright confirmed as much in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “In our [Marvel] movies, sometimes you have to keep moving forward very rapidly to get to the next thing,” adding, “Here, it’s like: ‘No, we can sit in these moments.’
What To Expect In Loki Season 2
Fans of Loki and Tom Hiddleston’s character will likely be very excited to hear this, as the first season gave us plenty of character development and interactions alongside some very interesting world-building in the form of the Time Variance Authority. The TVA will be playing a major role in Season 2 as well, with Loki continuing to work with Owen Wilson’s Mobius.
The first season of Loki was also one of the most important post-Endgame projects since it was the show that first introduced us to the next Avengers Big Bad with Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains. He Who Remains was revealed to be a relatively noble variant of Kang the Conquerer, who we got to know more about in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
However, the aforementioned problem of Marvel sometimes rushing things forward has very much been a problem for the Kang storyline.
While Kang is supposed to be this looming threat that hangs over all of Marvel’s current properties, we’ve really only got a brief look at the villain. Loki Season 2 seems to be addressing this problem as well, as another Kang variant is being introduced in the form of the 1900s inventor Victor Timely. It will be interesting to see how Timely plays into the second season and how much more we learn about Kang the Conquerer through his character arc.

It will be nice to see a Marvel show that takes its time to really dive deep into these characters, as it seems like the MCU has really just been going through the motions lately. Fans were recently disappointed with the Secret Invasion Disney+ series, which was supposed to be our chance to finally see Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury lead his own show and get the spotlight.
However, the storyline didn’t live up to the comic book storyline the series was based on, and Nick didn’t really get a chance to shine like people thought he would.
Despite introducing wacky elements like Alligator Loki and the animated Marvel clock Miss Minutes, Loki Season 1 still gave us a great character arc for Loki and even found time to build an exciting character arc for the Loki variant, Sylvie.
Marvel got back on track recently with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though that story was pretty isolated from the grander MCU storyline. With Loki‘s importance to both the MCU overarching story as a whole and the expectations of following up the great first season, it’ll be interesting to see what the show has in store when it premieres on Disney+ on October 6.
