Tom Hardy And Topher Grace Meeting In Spider-Man Franchise?
There have been a couple of on-screen versions of Venom over the years, with both Topher Grace and Tom Hardy playing the role. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment UK TikTok unexpectedly released a video to make these two worlds collide. In the now-deleted video, the two characters are edited with scenes from their respective movies to make it seem like they’re interacting.
A recent video mashup combining Topher Grace and Tom Hardy’s Venom’s together from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment UK gives fans hope that they might actually meet on screen.
While the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment UK TikTok account was clearly just having some fun, there’s definitely a chance that they’re teasing a future live-action Venom interaction. It’s not like it would be unprecedented, as there have been plenty of Spider-people crossovers in the past few years. Especially in the case of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought tons of characters from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, including Tobey Maguire.
Spider-Man: No Way Home brought over almost all of the villains from Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, including Sandman, Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus. However, Venom was left out of the fun, and Topher Grace missed out on returning to the fold. Tom Hardy’s version of the character even got a very brief appearance in the movie in the post-credits sequence before he was whisked back to his own world.
Sony’s other major multiverse film this year, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, also had a cameo appearance for Tom Hardy’s Venom films in the form of Peggy Lu’s Mrs. Chen character. Clearly, there’s going to be some point where Hardy’s character gets to interact with the rest of the multiverse in the future. The only question is, will Topher Grace ever get his redemption and make an appearance, too?
One significant tidbit about Tom Hardy’s Venom cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home is the fact that there was a tiny bit of the symbiote left over in the world of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. If Holland gets another Spider-Man trilogy, which seems to be in the cards if Holland is on board, it makes sense that the MCU would eventually introduce its own version of Venom. However, it seems pretty unlikely that Topher Grace would tie into that in any way.
In any case, it seems pretty clear that Venom isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Out of Sony’s shoddy live-action Spiderverse films, the Tom Hardy Venom movies have easily been the most successful — both from a commercial and critical standpoint.
Outside of the collaboration with the MCU with the Tom Holland films and the fantastic animated Spiderverse films, Tom Hardy’s character is all Sony really has going for it in the live-action comic book department. Since his character is more of an anti-hero, maybe we could see him get his own sort of multiverse movie in the future.
Clearly, there’s going to be some point where Hardy’s character gets to interact with the rest of the multiverse in the future. The only question is, will Topher Grace ever get his redemption and make an appearance, too?
The multiverse angle clearly works for Sony, so having a sort of Venomverse film might be just the shot in the arm the company needs for its live-action films. The idea may seem pretty far-fetched, but the fact Sony is joking about it on social media means that there are at least a few people in the company who have thought about it. Who knows what the multiverse might hold for us in the future?
