Katharine McPhee Foster loves being a mom so much she wants to have another kid…eventually.
The 38-year-old singer welcomed her first child, Rennie, with her 73-year-old husband, music producer David Foster, in February 2021. If McPhee has it her way, Rennie won’t be her only child. “I would love to have another baby, but we’ll see,” McPhee said during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, which aired on January 27. “We’re not in any crazy rush, but I hope so because I love being a mom. I really love it.”
When it comes to her 23-month-old son, McPhee also told Hudson, a fellow American Idol alum, that singing is “not his strong suit.” She added, “I mean, he’s under 2, so I’m not trying to be too critical here.”
McPhee competed on American Idol in 2006, coming in second behind season 5 winner Taylor Hicks. Foster just so happened to join the competition as a guest mentor that same year. Their relationship reportedly turned romantic in 2017 and the couple wed in Anacapri, Italy, in 2019. “It’s a real wow,” McPhee told Hudson. “The fact that we still, sometimes, look at each other and can’t believe that we met that long ago. We went on vacations together with other couples—like, other significant others—and were really great friends.”
She added, “We can’t believe the ride that we’ve been on.”
Aside from Rennie, Foster has six adult daughters from previous relationships, the eldest of whom is 52 years old. Katharine McPhee appears to have a particularly playful relationship with her 40-year-old stepdaughter Erin. In July 2019 the singer shared a series of steamy makeout photos with her husband on Instagram, writing, “Poor guy… too bad he doesn’t get very much attention.”
At the time Foster’s daughter replied, “Reporting this.”

“I had all daughters until my son and I love all my daughters immeasurably, but having a son is a little bit different,” Foster recently told People in January. “At this point in my life, it’s different again. Not better or worse, just different. I still work, I’m still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now.”
