In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Rajashri Bhasale, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals, tells Zarafshan Shiraz, “Some commonly seen problems during pregnancy such as gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, anxiety, depression, thyroid problems, piles, nutritional deficiencies, anaemia, infections, placental abruption or foetal problems can give rise to severe complications that can be harmful to the mother and the baby. It is essential to have a good pregnancy outcome and a healthy baby. 1. Eat a well-balanced diet - Eating healthy foods is imperative for pregnant women. Your baby needs all the vital nutrients for growth and development. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, calcium-rich foods, and foods low in saturated fat. Take your prenatal vitamins (folic acid, iron, and calcium) and supplements only after consulting the doctor. Limit your consumption of junk, fatty, oily, and processed foods.
