Emma Luxe Cooling mattress review: Could it help us beat the night-time sweats?

The newest mattress from Emma claims to stop sleepers from overheating at night

For hot sleepers, waking up the next morning or in the middle of the night in a puddle of sweat, with your clothes and bedding drenched, is a regular occurrence.

While the rise of memory foam bed-in-a-box mattresses have made luxury nights and pressure-free sleeps more accessible than ever, the non-breathable, heat-retaining material does nothing for night-time sweaters who want to have a comfortable kip without waking up soaked.

In April, popular bedding brand Emma launched the Emma Luxe Cooling mattress, a new hybrid memory foam-spring mattress designed to regulate sleepers’ body temperature by capturing their excess body heat and redistributing it throughout the mattress.

As a night sweat-toting card holder who’s been perspiring on a Simba Hybrid Pro mattress for years (very comfortable, but unbelievably hot), we had to try the company’s first mattress aimed at sweaty sleepers to see if it really worked.

How we tested

We’ve been sleeping on a double Emma Luxe Cooling mattress throughout the summer and into the autumn months. As well as comfort, how easy it is to maintain and evaluating how well we slept, the crucial thing was – did it help with our night-time sweating? How breathable was the mattress? And could we finally sleep in peace, even in the summer months?

The verdict: Emma Luxe Cooling mattress

The Emma luxe cooling mattress is a dream to sleep on. It’s not going to change your life in a heatwave but it will certainly make a difference in less extreme temperatures when you’re still prone to sweating. We felt ourselves overheating less in temperatures when we would ordinarily sweat and the mattress itself was comfortable and supportive, moulding to our body. It is a little bit softer than what we were used to but we soon got used to the flex. The only real negative is the edge support. We found ourselves slipping off if we got too close to the sides of the bed.
