Heed the description: do not buy anything brass if you want the finish to stay
pristine. It will soon look aged. Otherwise, it's a lovely case, but I would
consider bringing something else through airport security. Leaving Japan, I was
stopped and a nice lady searched my carry on several times trying to figure out
what was sticking out on their xray.
Given its price, I was disappointed by the finish quality. The edges of both the
top and bottom pieces came slightly burred, especially around the corners, and
I'll probably file/sand it down a bit.
There really is no alternative however, so I am happy they are producing this. I
like how it is slightly thicker on the top and bottom sides (at least to my
senses, don't have the tools on hand to test) to prevent bending/torsion and
esp. dents. Relative to standard tin cases its weight is substantial given its
size. (I think this has more to do with the thickness of the material more so
than the inherent differences in brass/tin density, which isn't too much.)
To my eyes it'll look better as it takes on a patina. Should last a lifetime or
two.
the only pencil case I will ever use now. Its perfect if all you need is the
basics. keeps my leads from being jostled around, and easy to clean out the
graphite crumbs if there are any. It's developing a nice patina. Have not had
issues with it opening in my bag as others have reported elsewhere.
