Well ... first I would ask the "band member", in private, if they were okay. Problems at home, internally etc. Then I would explain that their attitude was causing 'disharmony' in the band and THAT was unacceptable. Next, after I'd 'sourced' that out, possibly offering up whatever suggestions or connections I had to be helpful, I would probably move into "play or go home". Compassion then direct action.

What a load of rubbish! Obviously, whoever wrote that has never been in a band. Anyone can miss a couple of rehearsals but continously missing them is a lack of respect for your bandmates' work. Sack him!

I'd like to add that this article, or whatever you want to call it, is a load of nonsense. Anyone missing rehearsals, continuously missing rehearsals, should be sacked. If they have, problems, that'll give them time to sort them out. Once they're ready to commit, the other members can talk about letting him back in. All that molly cuddling isn't going to.make you successful: it'll prepare you for a job in social services which is where you'll be once your band has failed miserably.
