Working remotely can be challenging when my team is spread between India, Europe and the U.S.. As a result, the best times for team collaboration are very early or late in my day. It can be tempting to 'solve' this problem by extending my workday but this is not a feasable long term solution... Instead, try asking your colleagues to concentrate their input to 1-2 dedicated weeklky sessions, for example: - Early 30 min morning sessions with Indian colleagues every Monday and Wednesday - Late 30 min evening session with NY colleagues every Tuesday The fixed time limit encourages everyone to prepare in advance and focus our communication to pin point action items instead of having a more overall discussion.

When starting any medium-term to long-term project, it is worthwhile to take the time for an introduction session: set up a dedicated time slot to launch the project by going over the terminology, acronyms and common phrases/keywords required to know in advance in order to having any meaningful discussion. These can be written down in your organization's Wiki page / Confluence and evolve together with the project - when new members join the project, they can be referred to that information as a first step of onboarding. Stakeholders can then take ownership of onboarding new members from their team by themselves, removing the need to always play catch-up with knowledge transfer to newly joined colleagues.

A significant time difference can be used to your favor instead of being an obstacle. In my case, it is often useful to finish the day by sending an email to my colleagues describing the tasks they should prioritize in advance of the start of the business day where I am based. That way, by the time I get to the office my colleagues already had 2-3 hours to work on my requests.
